My mom came to visit last weekend and one night Rose ran to get her Rocket Phonics book and sat with a word list and read it to grandma. She had read the words that morning but usually (with past curricula) she never gets to the point where she isn’t sounding out every single syllable [...]
Rose was tired today after traveling all day from her great grandma’s funeral on Tuesday. In spite of a foul mood and allergies, she was determined to do reading today. To her surprise and mine, she read words like “long” “ring” “bring” and “king”. She was pretty proud of herself. “Five letter words, mamma!”
Today Rose sounded out her first sign. She sounded out the word “public” when we parked in front of a store. I almost cried. We have done 9 sessions of Rocket Phonics and she is moving quickly and starting to feel much more confident. I think she thought I was nuts when I started clapping [...]
Session number 6 went remarkably well. Rose was feeling so good about it that she did more than I had planned for her. The games we play to reinforce the lessons are incredibly helpful.
